Honoring Philanthropy: A Community Celebration
On November 13, 2026, San Diego County will gather at the esteemed Manchester Grand Hyatt for the 54th Annual National Philanthropy Day, an event proudly presented by PNC Bank. This year's theme, 'Impact Through Philanthropy', embodies the numerous ways that individuals, businesses, and organizations contribute to the greater good. Citing the significance of this theme, Ingrid de Llamas, CFRE, IAP, AFP San Diego chapter president, emphasized, “It’s what we see every day in San Diego’s diverse communities.”
The Power of Philanthropic Leadership
More than 1,000 community members, business leaders, nonprofit professionals, and philanthropists are expected to attend this gathering, showcasing what’s possible when intention meets generosity. Recognizing local heroes from the philanthropic sector, eleven honorees—comprising eight individuals and three organizations—exemplify the spirit of giving. Chosen through a multi-step vetting process, these honorees are celebrated for their roles in enriching the San Diego community.
A Commitment to Education and Growth
Importantly, National Philanthropy Day also supports the Empower Fund, fueled by U.S. Bank, which provides vital scholarships and professional development opportunities for nonprofit leaders. Since its inception, AFP San Diego has raised $28,000 for the Empower Fund, with a goal of achieving $50,000 in 2026. This demonstrates a clear commitment to enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of nonprofits across the region.
Local Engagement: How You Can Contribute
Community members are encouraged to participate and give back not just during this annual event but throughout the year. Donations to the Empower Fund are accepted year-round, fostering continuous support for local initiatives that uplift community leaders and organizations. By participating, individuals can be part of a larger movement that reinforces the belief that, together, we can create a better San Diego.
Connecting Through Philanthropy
AFP San Diego has a long-standing history of supporting fundraising professionals since 1974, championing ethical practices and professional education. With over 350 local members, the chapter creates pathways for networking and mentorship, ensuring that the spirit of philanthropy remains vibrant in San Diego. As attendees gather to recognize those who turn belief into action, the event underscores how communal efforts can strengthen lives across the county.
Final Thoughts: The Impact of Giving
Mark Stuart, the President & CEO of the San Diego Foundation and Honorary Committee Chair, encapsulated the day’s significance by stating, “Celebrating them reminds us all of the extraordinary power we have when we work together.” As we approach this vital day in November, consider the stories behind these honorees and reflect on how individual actions can accumulate to create monumental change. Join us in supporting and celebrating the philanthropic spirit that binds our community.
