In a thrilling showdown on November 22, 2025, Maranatha Christian made history by winning their first CIF Division 5-AA football championship. The Eagles overcame a challenging start and a fierce Palo Verde Valley team, securing a hard-fought 24-12 victory at Escondido High School.
A Game Highlighted by Defense and Strategy
Despite a rocky beginning where Palo Verde Valley’s running back, Christian Richards, dashed for an 84-yard touchdown, Maranatha's defense stood strong. Their ability to force turnovers proved critical, as they grabbed two vital turnovers in the first half, showcasing the team's resilience.
Head coach Nick Novak, a former Chargers kicker, praised his players after the game, stating, “I can't say enough about these guys. They don’t quit.” This mantra of persistence was evident as the Eagles executed a flawless 99-yard drive to extend their lead in the second half, culminating in a touchdown catch by Hudson Heinrichs after a strategic play from quarterback Shane Piester.
